Ipswich 'Beach House' (!?)
In
2004 Rodney and two mates bought, renovated and sold this charming
cottage in Ipswich. The 'Beach House' theme was the boys' attempt
to add a light, breezy feel to a house in one of the country's hottest
suburbs. Summer temperatures in Ipswich often hover around 40°C,
hence the light blue paintwork and open plan living areas. Of
course, being Ipswich, Winter temperatures can fall to 0°C - you
can't win them all!
As
per the game plan, an expansive back deck
was added, effectively doubling the living space and the underhouse
laundry 'shanty' was fully enclosed with security gate, and a concrete
floor added. Inside, the roomy kitchen was completely replaced including
new dishwasher, oven and rangehood. The sleepout was converted into
a third bedroom and the bathroom and toilet freshly tiled and painted
with new tapware.
The house was
'dressed' for sale by Rodney's
partner Brisbane artist, Candy. She kept the furnishing simple, clean
and colourful giving prospective buyers a feel of walking into a 'home'
rather than a 'house for sale'.
The Ipswich cottage
was sold early 2005.
